Protect My Pet Subscription Box Review

Subscription boxes have become very popular in recent years, and it’s possible to get them containing anything from makeup to healthy snacks. Pets aren’t left out of this market, and there are now quite a few pet subscription boxes, mostly focused on food, toys and treats. Protect My Pet is different in that it’s a monthly subscription service that sends you accurate doses of flea and worming treatments for you pet.

If you’re fed up of regular visits to the vet or pet shop, or forgetting to apply your pet’s treatments at the correct time then Protect My Pet could be just what you’re looking for!

Protect My Pet was set up by a team of veterinary professionals who wanted to create an affordable, easy, and reliable way for owners to ensure their pets’ were protected against ticks, worms and fleas.

How do I Sign up to Protect My Pet?

To sign up for a subscription, click here to visit the Protect My Pet website. You’ll then need to choose between the standard and premium boxes.

Protect My Pet Dog Subscription Box

The Premium box for dogs contains tasty treats and pooh bags as well as treatments.

The standard box just contains treatments, but if you’re willing to pay a bit extra you can opt for the premium box. This costs an additional £3.99 per month, and includes treats and goodies for your cat or dog.

You can also choose between different brands for flea and worming treatments, if you have a preference. Frontline and Advantage are the two flea treatment options available for both cats and dogs, with Frontline being slightly more expensive than Advantage. Drontal and Dronspot are the two wormer options for cats, with Dronspot being slightly more expensive. For dogs, Drontal is the only wormer option available.

At the moment, the only treatments included are for flea and worms, so treatments for conditions like lungworm aren’t available. However Protect My Pet are a young company, and are likely to expand their range in the future.

Standard boxes range in price from £6.99 for a small cat, to £15.99 for a large dog, with Premium boxes costing from £10.98 to £19.98 per month.

Once you’ve made your choice, you then need to fill in a few details including your pet’s age, breed and weight. The reason for this is that dosages of the parasite treatments are based on the weight of your pet, and Protect My Pet need these details so they can provide the correct dose.

The team at Protect My Pet will then prepare your pet’s box and post it out to you. The boxes are designed to fit through standard letter boxes, so you won’t have to be in to sign for them, or worry about them being left outside on your door step.

Once you’ve signed up, you can cancel at any time – you’re not tied in to any lengthly subscription.

When Does the Box Arrive?

Boxes are sent out on the 5th of every month, or the first working day afterwards if the 5th is a weekend or Bank Holiday. If you sign up on or after the 5th, you’ll receive your first box on the 5th of the following month. This seems to cause some confusion with a small number of new customers, who expect their first box to arrive soon after ordering. If you don’t want to wait until the 5th, you can get in touch with the team at Protect My Pet who will be able to help.

What do I Get in a Box?

Protect My Pet Cat Subscription Box

The Premium box for cats contains treats and wet food as well as the treatments.

Each month you will receive a spot-on flea treatment, and every 3 months you will receive your worming treatment as recommended by the manufacturers. If you subscribe to their premium box, your pet will also receive their treats and goodies each month too – dogs get an 80g pack of Pooch & Mutt grain-free treats and eco-friendly poo bags, while cats will receive a 60g bag of Natures Menu Meaty Treats and a pouch of wet food. Occasionally, the box will also include seasonal gifts for your pet such as tasty treats, useful accessories, or additional pet health care items (such as natural shampoo or dental products).

Extra Savings

The standard price is already good value, but if you have more than one pet you can save even more money! If you subscribe for multiple pets, each additional pet gets you a 10% discount. For example if you have 2 pets you’ll get 10% off, and 4 pets will get you 30% off. You can only include up to 4 pets in one purchase, as it’s not possible to fit more treatments in the box which is designed to fit through a letterbox. However this isn’t a problem – you can just order an additional box or boxes depending on how many pets you’re ordering for.

Our Thoughts

Protect My Pet subscription boxes are a convenient way to make sure you never forget your pet’s flea or worm treatment, and you save a bit of money too. The extra treats you get in the premium box are a nice bonus for your pet to look forward to each month, if they enjoy that particular brand of food.
